Does anyone know anything about or met a hiker that is claiming to be a NOBO thru-hiker going by the name of "trail cricket"? He is in Duncannon now. Was asked to leave the Doyle because he was going to everyone and asking for $. I was working at the Unimart and he came in looking for me. Have a few reservations about him. He is not very tall, wears a cross necklace with beaded embellishments and has a cross tattoo. One rumor is that he is not actually a thru-hiker but living on the trail.

Trail maintenance today near Cherry Gap in TN. Kincora brought the following hiker:

    Mule

Although we didn't officially open the section, several hikers happened by to christen it:

    L-Train
    Spielberg
    One Stick
    Baltimore Andy (WB)

There was some snow on the ground which made for some muddy conditions as it melted. But, otherwise it was a good day for maintenance.

Saw the following hikers out with Kincora on a resupply run:

    CRS
    Lops
    Duckie

They were all happy to be out of the recent miserable weather.

    Default Newfound Gap

Hi all, I dropped off a couple of hikers at Newfound Gap around noon today. Brought along some easter goodies in case I ran into more thru-hikers. Well, I had a wonderful afternoon visiting with several people. We enjoyed the sunshine and treats until some left for town and others pushed on up the trail.
I got to meet Lost Acadian, Black Cat, Jay Haden, Wendi, Matt,Laughing Owl, One step, Lunch Box, Koz, YoYo, Scout and Ewiek. Oh and a fellow named Minnesota something. Guys, it was a pleasure sharing a beautiful afternoon with you, it was fun. Hope to see you again.

I met Blue and three other thrus on the ridge over Burke's Garden yesterday during a great dayhike. Blue is the only one with whom I stopped to chat, although all of them got Easter candy. :-] He's flying -- started March 9th.

Two of the others were a mother-daughter pair.

I dropped a new shelter register at Chestnut Knob, which has been without for at least a month.

I saw Downhill, Cabot, Wizard, Left Toe, Sawtooth, Lightning, Deuce, Sir Long Legs and Blondie in Gatlinburg on March 19. Evergreen, Stink and Starbucks were there at that time also, but I didn't get a chance to meet them.

I got out for an overnighter and saw Hard Way at Rice Fields shelter (or Star Gazer shelter, depending on how old you are). He's doing a big section SOBO (Rockfish Gap to Damascus), and he walked into Pearisburg this morning.

Man, I love living close to the trail. I decided to get out about noon yesterday, left the house at three p.m. and was on top of Peter's Mountain by five or so. This morning I woke up at seven, hiked out and was home by ten a.m.

No particular point to this ramble, just feeling grateful.

Is Storyteller the same guy who was working at Blood Mtn Cabins last year? The cabins that are rented out by Mountain Trails?

I met Trek in Williamstown Massachusetts on Monday 4/13. We both took a bus from the Williams Inn to Pittsfield. He was going home to get his snowshoes for VT, NH & ME. He should be back on the trail by now or very soon.

I met a flip flopper at the AT train stop while I was out doing some work on my section. He goes by the name of Fishes the Banks. He was in good spirits and excited to be hitting the trail. He had just started up in the Kent area so it was only his second day or so.

He was humping a very heavy pack. This is being said by someone who is in the mid 40's range for his pack. I asked him what his weighed and he thought it was close to 80 lbs. I spent a bit of time trying to talk to him about the merits of bouncing things. His choice. His hike. I think that when he starts back north out of Kent for the second leg of his hike he may be hauling a lighter pack but thats just a guess.
