    Default Intimacy on the trail

I know this could apply to hikers of both genders, but I feel more comfortable here. Next year my husband and I are thru-hiking sobo. I'm not sure about the best thing to do regarding post-sex cleanup: dedicated after-sex bandanna, condom and wet-wipes, just refrain between trail towns? Do you find that your libido significantly drops on long-distance hikes?

Thanks for replies, and offering a safe place to ask the question.

We were 51 when we started out - married 32 years. By nightfall we were just too damned tired and too damned dirty. There are hotels if you want to get to it. Shower up and then you're clean and ready to go. If our troops in the middle east can get by for days, weeks, months without it, you can get by between town stops.

Condoms and wetwipes are your friend . Also it's nice for both of you to wash the area with some cold water and a little soap when you get into camp..if there aren't a lot of people around and you can find a spot to do it. Make sure you pee after, you don't want to get an infection out there!
You'll might want to limit it a bit to when you're in town, but I found that my libido wasn't decreased at all unless I did a 20-mile day or it was really freezing cold.

Bear in mind that a tent can provide visual privacy, but sounds carry just fine through those nylon walls. Unless you want everyone in the neighborhood to be with you in spirit, tent welllll away from other hikers.

Good point, Marta. Although if you go to Traildays, all bets are off. I heard some things...

At Trail Days, who can hear anything over the drums?

Actually, I usually hammock off by myself in a patch of poison ivy (which I'm not allergic to), and sleep like a lamb.

Nice thing is you're in towns pretty frequently. And several of the hostels even offer private rooms for married couples, but there are motels also. Might want to budget in for more stays in motels, honestly.

A thru hike provides many opportunities. Some sunsets can really be aturn on. When the weather is warm, the moon is right, under the stars can be a real experience, tent or not. You should try it under the stars. Be sure to know your surrounding area. There is alot of areas away from the usual camp sites. Your stealth abilities could be used to the advantage. No place better than on top of a bald. Will not forget on top of Elephant's Back, Yellowstone.

I know this is the women's forum and all that, but, I just want you to know I'm on my way to taking a cold shower.
I'm not really a hiker, I just play one on White Blaze.

The Sound Of Music, the Sound of Sex....
Did a trip thru the Smokys as 13 yr. old, and my neigbors in a tent were having sex.
Being the young man that I was, I didn't have a clue. "What's that sound"?....As an older man, now I know! But it's something I'll never forget....thanks!
It's the mans job to do the clean up.

Sorry to intrude but I had to respond

Going North in Vermont you will crosss Big Branch stream. Once across the bridge the AT goes to the left and to the right are a couple good camping spots. In the steream by the camping spots is a huge flat rock sticking out of the water. Enjoy!!

really? Im sure I dont know as much as my wife about the proper technique for cleanliness, specially in the woods.

Had fun as a teenager one weekend camping in N. GA mountains and the gfriend at the time didnt take proper care after the fact and I knew nothing about UTI's and infections. Nasty stuff and rule of mine now is too not play hanky panky with dirty hand and dirty...... If I ever to manage a thru Im sure the thought would cross my mind. happy hunting
