Indiana WBers July Get Together

[Gorp-Gobbler]

Since we haven't gotten together for the last three months, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing something this month.

Perhaps a two or three day hike on the Knobstone, or one of the other longer trails in the state, or even OH, KY, IL or a section of the AT.

Please respond here or send me a PM and let me know.

The Knobstone creeks still had water in them last Sat. (July 4th), but caching some at road crossings probably wouldn't be a bad idea. I can do this as long as I know a few days in advance what section we'll be doing.

I have a part-time job now but we are off on weekends.

The Knobstone in July/August could be a near-death experience.......

I'd wait for the weather to cool and for "spider season" (peaks near Labor Day) to be over. November would be nice for the Knobstone, but you'd still want to cache water.

I'm only good for a day hike in July. UNLESS you want to start Friday evening, and hike all day Saturday. Saturday nights are out for me right now.

I did the section from Jackson Road Trailhead to US 160 and back yesterday (07/12/2009). It was HOT!!!!
Very little water in the creeks but I carried plenty with me.
Used my treking poles to knock down spider webs that I could see.
Someone had been doing trail maintenance, a lot of grass and small trees cleared from path.

After leaf-out the campsite at about mile 9.6 has a great view of Louisville at night. Highly recommend it.

that's good to know. i will probably do the KT this winter and will make a note of that.

i'll keep an eye on this thread, i'd like to catch up with you guys again.

i'm heading out friday after work for a 2 nighter. might go to Deam, but most likely one of the HNF spots out off I-64 west, if anybody is interested.

This past Sunday I finished the Knobstone Trail.

Bigmac_in and I hiked the Delaney Loop Trail to complete my hike and we both did another trip around the Spurgeon Hollow Loop Trail.

The weather was perfect and the trail for the most part was in good shape. I believe we may have encountered two to three major blowdowns that looked recent and perhaps another one or two that were older. Not bad.

A complete Thru of the trail may be attempted later this fall.
