well, i do like tofu, but i'll admit, i wouldn't consider it a treat....and as far as it being a substitute for meat....well, no.

In all seriousness, I found vacuum packed country ham, presliced in thin slices. Heat for about a minute on each side and fini, instant ham breakfast.

Shelf stable bacon slices heated up, cheddar cheese on a bagel or tortilla. If one is feeling all fancy-McPants then add in some freeze dried eggs. And hello breakfast sammie!

I have "Tactical Bacon" (precooked canned bacon), which I'm excited about, but I'm also going to try carrying frozen bacon during the winter months. I wish I could make toast on trail. I suppose PITAS will suffice. Pitas, and jam, of course.

Why couldn't you make toast? Little fire, bread on a stick, and you're toasting. Could do it over a stove flame, too, for all that.

I may try it- I just like a certain sliced bread for toast, and it'll probably get squished. But, I'm sure it'll taste just fine after being out in the wilderness for a bit! Maybe I'll even splurge and bring butter!

It will still taste good squished, I promise!

Cinnamon toast would be good... Whatd'ya think, "cinnamon toast" (the kind with the cooked in cinnamon), or regular toast with butter and a mix of cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top? I'm thinking the cinnamon and sugar mix on top.

This thread always makes me so hungry. (That rubmling sound is my stomache)

Got it figured out- I'll just bring my pocketrocket, a skillet and bacon to work. Just sit in the middle of the floor (I'll add a ficus to make it more "outdoorsy") and cook bacon. Everyone would be weirded out here, but secretly really jealous. I can't wait for FEBRUARY. (Thru hike begins...)

Toasted bread slathered in copious amounts of butter, then dusted with cinnamon and sugar.

Poptarts are nice and quick. I haven't figured out how to keep them from getting crushed though. I end up with a mass of goo inside the ziplock.

On a side note, bacon flavored poptarts would rock!

Maybe maple syrup and bacon salt? Instead of the cinnamon and sugar?

Poptarts make me sick-they taste wayyy too sweet and after one, I'm sick of them for a month.

Now bacon, on the other hand, is a staple no one should ever be without.

BREAKTHROUGH idea; I like toast, I love Bacon. Toast, a little mayo or butter and lots of bacon= bacon sandwich for breakfast (or any other meal). Basically, a BLT with extra B and no L and T. I have this at home sometimes and it is really good.

    Bacon poptarts? That is GROSS!

Maybe one of those little hard-plastic waterproof containers? Granted it makes it hard to shove down into your pack.

Fritz- I really am starting to think you're stalking me

You can always toast bread in a fry pan lid. Just liberally spread with fat, fry up and flip over. Yumm-o!
