I will be doing a quick overnight hike from Amicalola Park up the approach trail, camp up by the shelter on Springer Mtn, then back down the next day. Just a gear shakedown run, but should be a nice time to hike.
Anyone care to join me?

You do realize that the shelter is not "on top" of Springer Mountain? It's the Stover Creek shelter.
My mistake. . . I just read that and should have looked it up first. Can't picture where it could be. It's been a while since I was at Springer.
Yea. That. Its just over 7 miles from the Park to the top of Springer, I was planning on camping by the Springer shelter, then hike back the next morning.
EDIT: havent been in a while? Sounds like a good reason to go!

Well, I haven't been to Springer lately because I'm section hiking north, and have little time for doing the sections I've already done - even if it's been a while. I remember liking that area, but I swear I don't remember a shelter at Springer.
ah well, had to postpone the trip due to RL. Better luck next time, eh?
