I wanted to pass on that we met an older couple in their 60's at Neel's Gap out hiking that had seen this special. They were from Florida and had never even heard of the AT before. After seeing the special on NatGeo, they did some research, found Blood Mountain Cabins and Neel's Gap and made that their next vacation. They said they were very inspired by the 70 year old man finishing the AT and I could see the gleam in the lady's eye as she said that! We met them heading up Blood Mountain as we were headed down on day and then ran into them again as we were SoBo from Hogpen Gap. Nice folks.

While the movie may have been disappointing to hard core AT hikers, I think the awareness that it brought to the general public may really do some good.

This is going to air again on March 27. I only get the local "rabbit ear" channels. Could anyone burn me a copy? I would mail you a blank DVD and a return mailer w/ postage on it.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been waiting for this to air again so I could get an HD copy. Has anyone ever done a copy from HD DVR to bluray?

Uh... I don't think it's airing tomorrow. At least not on the Nat Geo channel. It's not on their schedule at least, it's all the reruns of Alaska State Trooper. Or am I missing something?

OK, I think I found it. It looks like it's airing at 9PM on Tuesday, on Nat Geo. Not tomorrow.

Yes! I've been thinking I wanted to feed my trail fever with a documentary. It's set to record.

I saw the one on PBS a few years ago, have been watching for it again and nothing. I know there's ones I could watch online, but at home I've only got dial up, and when I got to a wifi hotspot, I don't typically watch videos.

Ahah! You are totally correct. I missed that when I was looking before, I was only looking at evening airings. Thanks for the heads up!

Watched it again. It'g cool seeing folks you know on the video. I still feel like I need to do a Tick Check everytime they show all of them on that one stick.

I hate ticks! That made me cringe when I saw all of them like that.

The web site says America's Wild Spaces, Appalachian Trail will air again on Tues Apr 6 at 5pm.

The big story about any park or trail is keeping it--minimizing human impact, protecting the plants and animals that live there, etc. Nature programs are funded to remind us of this.

I watched it last night and enjoyed it. I was disappointed that they didn't even mention PA, NJ and barely touched NY.

Last Fall, PBS broadcast Ken Burns's wonderful series "The National Parks: America's Best Idea." Maybe a coalition of Trail groups could look into producing a series about the National Scenic Trails and pitch the idea to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

While a 60-minute program can't cover everything, there would be more time (without commercials) to cover a bit of history as well as highlights of the various National Trails.

I caught this on Netflix Instant. I hadn't been on the trail in over 20 years and it really inspired me to get back out there. My wife and I now have a baby sitter for our two children (too young to hike) and we will be spending three days near Harpers Ferry this week. Great video that served it's purpose as far as I'm concerned!
