Default Shuttle? Watauga Dam Road to Dennis Cove Road

I'm looking for a shuttle driver. We are planning to hike Watauga Dam to Dennis Cove Road at the end of the month. Any suggestions of someone I can contact? Thanks!

Call Kincora Hiker Hostel which is in Dennis Cove. Bob Peoples runs it. He is the coolest guy on the Trail. (423)725-3039

You misspelled Charlotte in your information.

Are you keeping Pond Mountain this year, or you taking the gorge or lake trail?

Bob has good parking at Kincora, you can arrive there the night before your hike, stay in the Hostel, leave your car and get Bob to shuttle you North, then walk back to your car, have a shower and head home.

If the roads are bad, Bob wont drive down off the mountain.. this is true.. BUT....... If you have made arrangements with him, he will not leave you high and dry. Bob is well connected in that area. If he cannot be the driver, he will make sure there is someone at the appointed spot at the appointed time.

Even if the weather is REALLY bad (ie blizzard conditions) you can count on him making sure that you arent left out there alone. And if it is that bad of weather, you are probably hunkered down at a shelter somewhere anyway.

I'd think that if the roads were bad you'd have a hard time getting to his place to drop off your car anyway.

If the weather is that bad, and they are finishing at Dennis Cove Rd, they are likely going to be staying with Bob for a few days until the road clears anyway.

They could always hike back to 321 via the blue blazed Laurel Falls trail. Shorter and pretty flat.

Default A little off topic, but...

I've seen pictures of Laurel Falls completely frozen, you have a chance to see that (maybe), I would be ready with the camera and make sure you don't take the high-water bypass.

Most of it was frozen the other day. There was only one little part still flowing.

I've tried several times to contact Bob with no answer. Is this hostel open during the winter? Is there another way to contact him? We want to stay there at the end of the month and need a shuttle ride.

Yes, the hostel is open during the winter. He's usually out during the day. Try around dinner time.

Bob is very active during the day with shuttles, church stuff, and hiking club functions. He is usually back at the hostel around 5-6pm everyday.

Also send him a letter of your shuttle needs. But since you are just doing Wilbur Dam Road to Dennis Cove Road, thats about a good days hike. You can probably just walk in. But just try to leave him a message or call him while you are on the way.

You can also make arrangements with Braemar Castle. They are located in the main part of Hampton, at the bottom of the mountain from Kincora.
