Actually, one of the best beers I ever drank was Potomac Ale on tap at the Secret Six back in Harpers Ferry back in November. Good stuff.

If you think your a beer snob, you won't be on the Trail. Sure there will be times to drink what you like but if it's cold and free, you'll drain it,
    or, maybe that's just me.

    Default Wine's a tough one

If you're in parts of Virginia and want wine, the choice is between blue and green Boone's Farm. I think blue goes best with Moon Pies.

Other than that, I'd say take cold ones whenever you can over warm ones .
I like the Long Trail line (they make a number of beers).
Bass Ale is my old time standard when I'm in the "average" American bar - choice of Bud, Bud Light, or anything darker - I'll take the "other".
The big Heineken cans are nice when you just want to relax after a long hard hot day - as long as you can stop in town somewhere past the middle of the day. Shove it deep inside your pack and it should still be cool by the end of the day.

    Shiner Black.

Or for something interesting ... Shiner Smokehouse.
Tastes like you're drinking a Shiner and eating a smoked honey ham at the same time. I'm the only one I know that likes it. Which is why I bring it to social functions when I feel like drinking a beer. (Nobody else wants me to share.)

    (Off topic)
That being said ... Knob Creek Bourbon is the real drink of choice.

Magic Hat #9 was one of my favorites, but yeah, even Budweiser tastes good when you get one cold out there.

I was gonna say any I can drink but don't have to carry before consuming. Afterwards, who cares? You don't buy beer, you just rent it and won't have to carry it for long, as a rule.
