Camera tripod for Droid??

Has anyone who is considering using their Droid as their camera figured out how to connect it to a tripod (Gorillapod) or some other tripod to use so you can take better and/or timer pictures?

I have been trying to figure out the best way to attach the Droid to a tripod. Only ideas so far are:

1. Gluing a tripod mounting nut to the case for attaching
2. Using the USBmicro plug as the mounting point and supergluing the head of the USPmicro plug to the tripod.

Have not quite decided if photo quality is sufficient to bother but this issue factors into my decision on whether to take a separate camera or not.

Ideas appreciated!

I don't think I would use thee USBmicro plug for anything weight bearing. It probably wouldn't take much to break it.

I made a mount for my Motorola Q smartphone when I hiked in '08.

Basically get a belt clip like one of these:

and an ultrapod:

Find a spot on the clip that you can bore a hole into, slightly smaller than the screw on the ultrapod. Then use the screw on the ultrapod to thread the hole like you do when you cut new threads on a tap and die set. It took me about 30 seconds to make it work.

I know you don't have an iPhone, this is what I made for the wife to use at the house. The phone can be rotated the completely around. I have not used it outdoors yet but sure it would work.

after paying my bill at the phone place i witnessed a guy buy a droid and walked out side missed his pocket it fell ontho cement and broke right there the screen cracked and i woulnd even turn on. So you might wanna check on how durable that is b4 you take it.

There is a difference between dropping a cell phone on concrete and dropping it on a dirt trail (unless you are in Penn. with the rocks). My touchscreen cellphone had no problem surviving the PCT. But 3 weeks after I got home, I bent over and it fell out of my **** pocket onto the sidewalk and broke. Many smartphones, without a protective case, will be damaged on impact with a hard survice if they don't land right. It isn't just a Droid thing.
