Default Do you hang your diva cup?

Hi everyone. I am wondering if those of you that use the wonderful diva cup on the trail hang it in your bear bag when you are not using it? I always have in the past (in a double plastic bag), but is this necessary? Thanks!

That was diva cup, not sierra cup. Apparently there is a difference.

I can't FIND a diva cup... check CVS, WalMart, Target... what gives?

I would say not necessay and would want to keep it separate from my food anyway.
Are we at greater risk when we bleed? just curious.

I bought mine online BUT I have seen them at Whole Foods!

Modiyooch--I have heard of only one story of a woman being attacked during her period. I don't know the validity of it, but I am sure that it does happen every once in a while. I think that what is very wonderful about the diva cup is that it keeps all inside until you are ready to ....dispose... (they talk about that in the little book that comes with it) so perhaps it creates less of a risk.

You need to go to a health food store or something of the like, no way places like Target, CVS are going to carry them. Or check online.

I just kept mine in my pack, no need to hang when not using.

I don't think so either, as I think back to the many periods that I have had on the trail. My trash that was left in the pack was never bothered either. The diva cup does not work for me.

I've seen them sold in health type stores - like health food stores. Or look online.

I absolutely, 100% refuse to believe this until someone can present me with an actual article with sources.

Do you mean the bear attacks or the Diva Cup? Like I said, I don't know the validity of the story, so I'll take it back, perhaps it never happens. People do get attacked by bears on occasion though...for whatever reason that may be, and I just want to do what I can to not be one of them.

You can also find them at REI

The instructions say to boil them for 20 minutes when you are done using it for the month, does anyone do that on the trail?

I've never been where I had to bear bag, but it seems to me, since an animal's sense of smell is so acute, it would be a good idea to hang when not using it, regardless of how clean it is. ~K2~

    To add:

Here are faqs from the diva website:http://www.divacup.com/en/home/faqs/

Look under the "Sports and Traveling" section for their recommendations. ~K2~

If my memory serves me correctly (and it might not)...both of the women (but it might have only been one of them) attacked on the infamous "night of the grizzlies" were menstruating at the time and this is where the whole women having their period are at greater risk began.

Theoretically a portion of bear attacks on women should occur during their menstruation cycle even if there is no cause/effect relationship.

Definitely don't hang around garbage dumps.
Love people and use things; never the reverse.

Mt. Katahdin would be a lot quicker to climb if its darn access trail didn't start all the way down in Georgia.

Why bother with all that?? My doctor wrote me my pill prescription so I can take them back to back for the hike and not have a period. Then there is no worries.
