I like the MSR folding spoon. No problems with it. Well not yet, anyway.

Given how deep Mountain House bags are, I'm on the lookout for a smallish bamboo or wooden spoon with the right length handle. In the meantime, I bought a pair of GSI plastic spoons at Academy. The handle is long enough for single serving meals.

Do MREs still come with a spoon?

I haven't had one of those in years but I remember that the brown spoons that came with them were bomb proof!

You could've used one of those as an extra tent stake!

I obtained several cases of Eversafe MREs and they all have the brown spoons in them.

Never had one melt or get brittle when boiled either as mentioned in post #7.

Been replaced with https://www.rei.com/product/895376/g...rs-pouch-spoon at $1.95 and 1/2 longer, it is also .3 of an ounce heavier.

The titanium sea to summit is 1/2 inch shorter, 0.4 oz. lighter and about nine dollars.

Bingo! That is the spoon! I bought 2 at Academy Sports, Tyler, TX. In the same section with stoves, cook sets and freeze dried meals.
Actual length according to my scale: 8.75 inches.
Actual weight according to my digital scale: 0.48 ounces.

Next time you pass by a Chipotle walk in and head towards the counter with the napkins and ketchup. Grab a bunch of spoons. They are thick and strong and I believe they are made of either corn or potato starch. So if you're still hungry after your meal you can eat the spoon for dessert.

2nd place are the utensils from Wendys.

If the spoon is too hot, the food probably is, too.

I like these. The bowl is large for shoveling large quantities of food, and slightly squared off at the end for scraping the last bits from the bottom of the pot. Mine's an attractive lime green color.

Toaks or Optimus Titanium Long Handles Spoon is what I settled on. Especially to reach deep into freezer bag style meals. Suggest you get the "smooth spoon" option because the texture is more enjoyable in the mouth. Lite weight and just a little more expensive then regular metal spoons. Usually, $10-13 on Amazon.

    Here is a link: https://www.amazon.com/TOAKS-Titaniu.../dp/B00J1BV01C

The Optimus is what I would buy (and I think I own) because it is $8.40. Also, I started with the Folding Spork and am a convert. I would skip that step.
