    Default Cortisone Shot in Foot

Any cons in receiving just one cortisone shot in the foot? I don't have PF, but something else. I can currently live with it. Not big on meds. I am a runner and backpacker. It's been 9 months with no change, and under a doctor's care. I plan on long distance hiking in 2 months. Any experienes out there with the shot?

There would be no particular harm in getting only one as opposed to two.
Two might be better than one, but if so, one would be better than none.

I've had 5 injections in my back, with good results. I have a couple of bad discs. My last one was over a year ago. For me the injections have worked fairly well, expensive tough.

One cortisone shot is nothing to be glib about. Two? Do some research before you get someone hurt.

Cortisone is essentially an anti inflammatory. In 2007 I did soemthign funky in my knee and got a couple of injections over the summer. It eventually healed and all was right with the world.

Some injuries if you use Cortisone to mask the problem and then over use the item being affected, it will never heal. Definitely go on the advice of your doctor only for it. If he says ok. ok, if he says no, then don't risk it.

I guess I misunderstood the original question. Sorry.

doctor says either way. dr also said two rounds of anti inflammatory meds & orthodics that didn't work. I like my dr. He's an ultra runner. I can gauge it with my running. My concern is with my next long distance hike. This happened during my last long distance hike.

You are lucky to have a doctor that is also an ultra-runner.
Hopefully young enough to be up-to-date, and old enough to be wise.

What does he suggest as alternatives? Exercises or stretches?
    What about walking barefoot occassionally?

orthodics, ice, and no barefoot. I'm real surprised the anti inflammatory pills did nothing. Like I said, I hardly take meds, so I expected some effect.

I had a shot in my knee about 5 years ago. WOW! for me I was brand new in 3 days. The shot lasted about 6 months. The orthopedic surgeon told me that multiple/ongoing shots are bad for you. After a diffichlt hike last year on the northern half of the long trail, I got SYNVIC injections about 4 weeks ago in each knee. I think there's an improvement. (wishfull thinking?) I'll know in a few weeks when I do a early summer one week hike on the AT in vermont. I'd do the cortisone if I could. For a one shot try, I'd go for it.

Did he put you in a prednisone pack first? What about aggressive PT - ultrasound, exercise, etc?

Can't or won't take prednisone even if offered. I got very sick years ago from it, that's one reason I'm hesitant about the cortisone shot. I requested and received ultrasound at the chiro. pt, exercise, etc. not mentioned.
    I think I'll try a foot massage.

I've got digentitive arthritis in big toe joint. Got a shot about 3-4 years ago and have not had to get another one yet. Really helped me as I was limping from the pain.
