Bad News in Delaware Water Gap

I was trying to make arrangements for a shuttle in the Delaware Water Gap area last week. One of the places I tried was the Pack Shack, as found in the ATC shuttle list. However, several calls failed to get in contact, even with an answering machine. I finally decided to Google "pack shack" and "delaware water gap." and was surprised to find that the owner, John Greene, was arrested back in February on charges of possession of child pornography, as you can see from the list of articles here:

(Unfortunately, since I first looked at these articles, the Pocono Record has put in an annoying permission system which I am unable to log into. However, you can still get the idea of the articles if you're willing to hit refresh a couple of times.)

The last article indicates that jury selection was scheduled for August. I have been unable to find any more recent articles, nor could I find anything on the web site of the federal courts in that area. Is there anyone in the area who has more information and can say whether the Pack Shack will be open again soon?

The most recent filing in this federal case was a court order October 19.

wow, been going to the pack shack since i was 15. when i was a kid he bought my climbing rack and i used the money to hike another week. he allways treated me like gold and they had a policy that if a thruhiker comes in and needs only something under five bucks it was free. how cool was that? any of you ever goten that deal? and the family was kind and made regular customers wait while searving thrus cause they knew we were trying to leave town early and they bent over backwards for us. the pack shack was the longest operating outfitter on our trail i belive. wonder what the vilage bakery will say when hikers ask witch way to the shack? sad. real sad. for an outfitter with a ball of string and some poop trowels, they made up for their poor stock with kindness. bad. big loss. hate to hate him after all these years, but for the safty of kids i gotta retro hate him. i made up that term as a kid. its when a dear friend does the unthinkable and you must erase their existance from your mind. retro hate.

If they went this far with it, it must have been a good amount and not just 1 or 2 few photos from a web site that he didnt relize was not of age. If thats the case.............

Can only hope that while in holding he got the crap kicked outta him. Can only hope that something worse awaits him in jail ........ maybe another case of an inmate shoving a broomstick so far up his backside..... he dies a slow/painful death from it.

there is another outfitter in dwg. check out a place called (edge of the woods outfitter) it is very small but they also do shuttles.

While I may agree if he were charged and proven a pedophile, it seems a little harsh for what may amount to nude pictures of his own kids coming out of the bath tub

He possessed child pornography, thus a child was sexually exploited to make it. Yes that makes him a pederast.

Call me extreme if you want. I don't sympathize with folks who victimize children and I try to remember who the victim is.

I don't condone the activities he pled guilty to. I'm just saying that it's baffling that a person who can be kind and generous can also be capable of behavior we all condemn.
