    Default Massanutten Trail...

can anybody tell me more about the water logistics for this trail...i've done the online searching and it seems i need to drop caches of water in places, but that was gotten from one guy's trail journal...has anybody been on there lately?

also, where are the cool campsites?

is one direction better than the other?

what's the snow like up there right now/in a month typically?

    thanks!

Not mine, just found it through google.

I've owned a timeshare @ Massanutten resort for several years now and can honestly tell you that it is some of the most beautiful area I've ever seen. We love the place.......
Unfortunately I can't tell you much about hiling the trail itself.

I'm gonna do it someday, and I've been saying that for a while now..... I'd be interested in following along with this thread to see how you make out....

    Keep us updated

    Thanks

Can't tell you about the water, but the snow on the south-facing slopes is mostly gone. Still an inch or two on the north slopes and in the hollows.

I know the older edition of the PATC guidebook has suggestions for water caches and pointed out the tent sites, I would think the new one would too

    http://www.patc.us/store/PC160.htm

It is pretty dry in areas, as most of it is on the ridge. same goes for the tentsites

It's a challenging trail, pretty rugged, quiet, not diverse at all. It's sort of close to me and I'd only backpack there for a quick overnight.. if I had the time to do a multinight I would go further out. Can't help with snow conditions, sorry
