Default Any trails that go from GA to TX

Is there any trail that will take you west from the springer mountain area toward at least Texas?

I don't know of any long-distance hiking trails coming in to Texas. In fact, the only long trail I know of in the state is the Lone Star Hiking Trail, which runs for about 96 miles north of the Houston metro area.

The Pinhoti Trail takes you from Georgia into Alabama. Other than that, I have no idea.

The only thing better than mountains, is mountains where you haven't been.

You may want to consider a bike trip instead... check out the maps on http://www.adventurecycling.org/ for more info on a southern route.

I'm trying to picture "hiking" across the Achafalaya Swamp on I-10 for miles on a narrow shoulder with alligators snapping below...

It would be one long road hike.

I sure wouldn't want to do it in the summer. The highway in Mississippi is like a lava flow in the Summer. You wouldn't need a cook kit, just lay your grub on the asphalt and it will be piping hot in about 5 minutes.
The most beautiful of vistas are only seen after a long uphill climb.

Maybe someday an ambitious hiking club will build a giant loop trail around the contiguous US that takes in the AT, the PCT, and connects the ends of the two across the northern and southern edges of the country. I think you'd definitely want to hike the north side in summer and the south side in winter.
