Default good music for the trail

What are some good tunes to put on an mp3 player while hiking the trail. All types of music are welcome. I more or less just want some ideas

For me for hiking, nothing compares to good ole' BLUEGRASS.

Normally i listen to lounge, jazz, big band and hardcore/deathmetal.

    Metallica for going up hills,
Pink Floyd for resting at the top.

Something with a strong beat to give you that adrenaline rush you need at the end of the day.

Nature sounds, relaxing. Something to help remember to start slow, then slow down and enjoy.

Life off trail is hectic. Life on trail is a choice. Hike slow, fast, or whatever...just enjoy.

Your choice of music will be what helps you achieve a level of enjoyment, and leave behind the hectic of life off trail.

    My 1/2 cent anyway....

Gosh, that's such a wide open question, its impossible really to give you anything that isn't a shot in the dark with regard to what you might actually like. I can tell you what I like, and while I don't listen much while on the trail, I typically have a shuffle handy for evening listening, or in bed early due to rain, etc. I like a mix of stuff, but enough of one genre so that if I'm in that mood, I can listen to several songs in a row of it...

Col. Bruce Hampton and The Aquarium Rescue Unit
    Cake
    Allison Krause and Union Station
    Robert Palmer
    Pink Floyd
    Steve Miller
    Chieli Minucci
    Tinsley Ellis

I realize that these are my personal choices, but I think it would get mighty old if I were listening to one genre all the time. Otherwise, bluegrass does seem to be perhaps the best fit for the Appalachian mountains.

There is too much to miss listening to music while hiking, for me. Euro trance and dance for in my tent, though. That's probably after a little NPR. But really the sounds of the woods hold my attention and keep me walking.
Then there is the live music sometimes found at shelter areas with the sad harmonica player moaning into the night or the mandolin student honing their skills. It's all part of the trail life getting together at the end of the day for camaraderie and day's shared experience. One of the nicest sounds to me is the music of a crackling fire surrounded with quiet stares that we humans have spent countless eons doing.

Load your ipod with nothing but nature sounds, it'll keep you in the mood.Save the music for trailtowns, you'll start appreciating music you never thought you'd enjoy.

If I'm having a rough day on the trail, I listen to what I work out to, which is dance/hip hop. At the end of the day when I'm snuggled warm in my tent I have to have some Norah Jones playing!

I hike to North Carolina's own Avett Bros. plus other bluegrass, anything but the Theme to Deliverance!

I listen to folk-punk on the trail mostly. Check out Mischief Brew.

    Avett brothers are great.

Careful not too turn it too loud. I've scared the crap out of more than one person coming up from behind to pass them.

Ok, I have a somewhat silly question....how do you keep your mp3, iPod, iPhone, Shuffle, Nano....whatever juiced up? My power doesn't last when I'm listening to music for more than 5 hours - that isn't even a day of hiking
