Ok, would you say there are more encounters with Chase banks or Wachovia banks at trail towns along the entire AT?
thanks.

You're probably best off with Bank of America for a national bank closest to the trail. I hate paying ATM fees and will do cash back where ever possible when a BofA isn't available.
I charge every penny I can and hit ATM's as little as possible.
how much cash do you take, and rely the rest on your bank card?
You're not going to find any Wachovias considering they're all going to be Wells Fargos in a month
up over the hills, theres nothing to fear
theres a pub across the way with whisky and beer
its a lengthy journey on the way up to the top
but it ain't so bad if you have a great big bottle o'scotch
You dont ever need more cash than what you intend to spend in any given town. Make the first stop the grocery store. Most will let you get up to $40 in cash back with a purchase. The big ticket items in town, like lodging and meals and bars will take a debit/credit card. There isnt much need for more than $40 of misc expenses in any given town that doesnt fall into the big 3 spending buckets.

I took about $100 in cash. When I went to POs and stores, i'd get money that way. Or use my credit card for charges (not my debit except at well known stores). I only had one ATM charge.
