    Default Condition of FS 42?

I was just wondering if anyone knows the condition of FS 42 coming in from the Ellijay side. I've heard rumblings that it is in bad shape. My car has very little ground clearance. Thanks in advance for any info.

I haven't been on 42 for a while, but I can tell you that I've driven up 42 from the Elijay side for 20 years and I've never, ever, not never found it to be a problem (except when snowy/icy which isn't the case now). I've driven everything from a 4wd Explorer (great ground clearance) to to a mg midget (almost no ground clearance).

I'm convinced that people who complain about 42 have never driven on anything but paved roads. 42 is one of the best maintained forest service roads you're gonna see.

I drove up FS42 a couple of years ago for New Years Eve with my wife. Found it to be steep in some places, but not a problem at all. As for ground clearance, you should be okay, but drive in L1 or 2, watch the road and you will make it up.

Call Amicalola Falls state park, they can provide current conditions. 706-265-4703

I'd call Hiker Hostel; this time of year they're probably on the road every day.
