    Default Wildfire closes Florida Trail in Big Cypress. Panther cubs killed

    Jarhead Wildfire in Big Cypress National Preserve has closed the southern section of Florida Trail between US 41 and I-75 (Alligator Alley).

    Yeah the smoke on the westide of Jax is pretty thick. Alot of ash too. I'm sure it's alot worse along the trail.

    It is sad to hear about the cubs. At least the mother survived.

    I follow the Go Hydrology! blog. The author posted an entry for today discussing the current dry season. The graphic displayed puts this season in context, it is one of the driest years for southern Florida.

    I'm in Hialeah this morning and it's smoky here. The reversal of the sea breeze must be bringing the smoke in this direction. I'm heading out to BC on Wed. so hope I can get through.

    That's coming from the Okefenokee and/or 12-mile Swamp in St. Johns. The former has burned over 80K acres. The latter is closer to 200. I-95 was closed a couple of weeks ago.
