The AT bears have already associated tents with food. The damage is already done.
Bears there will walk into shelters and tents already, so developing proper storage habits wonthelp ya guys on the AT now. You have to learn to put up with the bears, n0w.

    Not really.

There seems to be much more evidence that AT bears have associated bags hanging from trees with food. Hanging food is unattended food.

I have not seen any reports of bears taking food from tents unless it was food left unattended.

I wonder how many different times this has been said in the 175ish replies to this thread so far.

It's a selective fear. Like I've said 3 times already - 8000 people a year are bitten by venomous snakes and if you ask if you should worry about getting snakebit hiking the AT everybody will start saying, "No way! They're more afraid of you than you are of them.", etc. etc.

    You're almost 8000
times more likely to getting bitten by a snake than attacked by a bear....

I guess the bears in Washington ae dumber than the bears on the AT. Or, maybe it's the fact that people out here know better than to leave food around.

I'm afraid of getting bitten by a snake while being attacked by a bear.

Yep, people in Washington are smarter that those in the East. The real question is who is more morally grounded.

Some are so grounded that they don't waste time questioning others....

You're alright, Kanga, but you could use some new come-backs. You're not nearly as cheeky as you used to be.
