    Default camping on sassafras mtn?????

Are there any good camp sites on top of sassafras mtn in GA. This will be between 10-15 miles for us on our 1st day and wondering if there are good camping sites on top of mtn.?

the climb is steep but short (20minutes)...you will be tired at the end of those 15 miles....don't remember if there is water on top.

Not really. You could crash there, but there's no water. Better off going to Justus Creek if you can get that far.

Great spot on top on left side (North bound) not too far after you crest the top of the ridge. Bring enough water. I stayed there in Oct. 09.

I recommend stopping at Horse Gap before Sassafrass. It is exactly 10 miles from Springer. There is water across the road on the left. then you are fresh to hike Sassafrass in the morning. It doesn't kick quite so hard when you are rested.

camping on Sassafras is awesome. Bring water like everyone else said. I don't like camoing at Horse Gap but I don't like camping at roads.

I considered camping there, but did not have enough water . Pushed on to Justus creek. Note to self: be sure to check water next time, hated that last push to justus creek.

Agree with Migrating Bird about the great place at the top of the mountain. I seem to remember two places, actually. I stayed there once and I was the only person on that mountain for the night - it was wonderfully quiet and the spot was pristine. You will have to take your water, though.
