Default NJ/NY in mid October 2011

Interested in NoBo NJ/NY AT after the bugs are gone?

A moderate pace with resupply every 3 -5 days.

I might be interested in joining you. I'm free late Sept to mid-Oct but not late Oct. I can take as much time as needed. Let me know more about your plans.

I plan on doing the entire NJ/NY section in October. I believe to cover the 2 states its approx 160 miles. Im have about 12-13 days free, im also going nobo. I suppose everyones moderate means different. But im looking at getting ny/nj over in about 10 days and maybe tackling another 20-30 miles if Im feeling froggy. Im interested in having a partner to hike with or share shuttle costs. But theres also benefits to going solo and just meeting nice folks a long the way, keep me updated.

Default Average 16 mile/day is more than my moderate.

    Dear flagator,

I'm sorry to say that averaging 16 miles/day is more than I can do. Thanks for considering it.

I would feel comfortable doing 10-12 miles per day, although I can do more. The most I've done is 18 miles, which was on the last day of a 3 day section hike in southern VA - only 'cause I had to in order to get off the trail.

    Dear Transition Bob,

I've a commitment that prevents me from starting earlier than Monday, 10 October. This doesn't seem to fit your schedule.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

That's a shame. Oct. 10th would be too late of a start for me. Good luck. Enjoy the hiking. If anything changes let me know.

    Bob

That's a good time of year to do the NY section, 1 thing to remember, Hunting season is open - I'd be interested in joining you guys (I've done this section quite a few times) / Keep me in the loop, I'd be joining you at the Bellvale Creamery (I live right down the road) and would grab the train in Pawling NY for ride back home

I was looking at doing all of the NY or NY+NJ sections this summer, since I've got free time. I may be able to do it in October, depending on the itinerary.

    Kermitt,

Have you made plans to hike in October? Looking for a partner? I'm the same age and hike pretty much the same # of miles daily.

Hello: I am interested in joining you for NoBo NJ / NY. I am pretty much available anytime in Oct. I am in the same age bracket as you so our pace should be similar. If you would like to discuss details please send me an email at [email protected]. We can exchange phone numbers and see if we can make this work.

    Default At ny nb

I live close to the NY - AT - I'll check it this weekend, but I'm sure it's not going to be a pretty site, I know Bear Mt had some mud slides - this area of NY received over 12" of rain from Irene

I'll post the trail report over the weekend

Sorry for the late post here, Bear Mt / Harriman area got hit pretty hard, I was out on the AT over the weekend (9-3) some of the trail has washouts and some blow downs - but for most part the trail is in OK shape - just have to watch for roots that grab at your boots ...............
