Where is a safe and convenient place to park a car in Pearisburg for an extended period of time?

Rendezvous Motel, just call the day before and let them know your plans. The AT passes about a block from their property. They let you park right next to the road, in a high traffic area.

Do you know if Brenda & crew are still at the Rendezvous? I stayed there twice and both times it was a very interesting.

Just stayed at the Rendezvous 2 weeks ago. The manager was a guy named Jerry. No Brenda in sight. Clientele consisted mostly of construction workers who were just getting back from work when we went to bed and were already gone in the morning. One thru hiker and ourselves. Nothing too interesting was going on, as far as I could tell. But maybe the rendezvous-ers were just being very discreet.
    "Are we there yet?"

pearisburg is a relatively safe trail town. town hall, sheriffs' office---the best location would be rendez-vous motel. the vous is the closest to the trail(just as safe as anywhere else). if none of these appeal to you, then consider my house. i'm 2 miles from the trail. it's safe, i park there(no problems). i'll shuttle you to the trail. i shuttle hiker's. i'm don. any ?'s call 540-921-7433(RIDE)

Lightbulb One other place to mention

On the south side of the New River Bridge (ie, US Highway 460), almost just across from where The Trail leaves US Highway 460

is a parking lot for the Giles County Farm Bureau Coop. The Bureau (apparently) has no problem with hikers parking there for several days. Both Michael of Woods Hole Hostel and Rohland's site

state as such, there are no signs of any kind restricting parking, and I had no problem doing so last week.

I have no idea if there might be a problem if you parked there for more than a week.

An option that I can NOT recommend, at least for long-term parking, is Cross Avenue. There is room for a few cars
    http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=61223
right where The Trail goes over this road on its way uphill to Angels Rest
    http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=61224
It's also pretty easy to reach. If you start at the intersection of Main Street (aka, State Highway 100) and Johnston Avenue -- you'll find a Dairy Queen right there -- and drive uphill on Johnston, you'll soon come to a sign
    http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=61225
that makes it clear which way to turn. Watch for the sign directing you to Angels Rest, turn your car around (CAREFUL!! - it's a narrow road, with no shoulder and a STEEP drop-off), and then pull onto the dirt area. The parking place is pretty isolated, and thus a bit less safe than roads with more traffic. My guess is that this area is for day-hikers who are going up to some nice overlooks.
