Break-ins can happen anywhere but i hate it happened there as I plan on parking there in Sept. Think anyone would want to break in to my 2001 focus with 140K. I will be sure to leave a lot of trash in the back seat.

This is my strategy. If you leave the window cracked a bit, they will usually check to see if it is unlocked before they break the window. The damage from the break in is always worse than what they steal unless one is so foolish to leave something valuable in a car.

I parked there plenty this year without a problem. I heard the police may have info since they used a stolen credit card. should catch them....

This is an isolated incident. No reason for people to get their panties in a wad and vow to never park at a trailhead again.

I'm afraid I'm limited to getting my knickers in a twist.
Which I shall refrain from doing upon your sage advice.

I've parked off the AT in Shenendoah several times over the past few years - even in some not so great spots - and always leave the doors unlocked.

I also empty out the center console and glove box and leave them open. Anyone that is looking for a quick smash and grab can see there isnt anything in the car.
