    Default Question on temps...

Can someone give me an idea what the temperature ranges might be on the trail in early August? Specifically in the Newfound Gap area. Thanks, I just want to be sure this Florida boy doesn't completely misjudge the nighttime temps at altitude.

Check it a few days before you go.

Pick a near by town, find it's zipcode. Go to weather.com and enter the town. Go to 'Month' view and you can get the typical and historical highs and lows for a month to nearly 2 months ahead of now. This year seems to running near the record highs for many areas on the trail.

Temperatures can fluctuate wildly. As you can see from 10-K's link, the "average" temperature at night around that time of year is about 60 in the lower elevations and 50 in the upper elevations. But the temperatures you might actually encounter on your trip could easily be +/- 15º. So you might see lows in the 40s, or the temperatures might never fall below 75.
