    Default Bear Box use

    Hi everyone,

I am new to the forums and have a question about bear boxes. I grew up backpacking in an area where bears really weren't a concern. My fiance, yellow lab, and I are heading out for an overnight in the Berkshires this weekend to a site with bear boxes. Is there any particular advice or etiquette with the use of bear boxes?

    Just curious...

    Thanks,
    Chris

If you're sharing a box with others, it'd be courteous to keep your things organized, of course. Other than that, just put everything in the box at night or when you're away from camp...everything!...from chapstick, to sunscreen, to soap and toothpaste, to food, trash, and even your freezer bag cozies if you use those.

Remind any fellow users that it's a storage box not a trash can.
The trouble I have with campfires are the folks that carry a bottle in one hand and a Bible in the other.
You never know which one is talking.

I couldn't agree more with this statement. It really gets under my skin when I get to a camp with bear boxes and they are full of the previous users trash!
