Hi all,

Located this info at the REI weblog. New Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2 Platinum tent. Same over-all floor plan to the normal UL2, but this one weighs in at a feathery 1lbs, 13 oz. It also has a crazy price of $499... but hey, you get what you pay for, right?

Yeah, that's a pretty good sized tent at just under 2lbs. But I have to ask why is it $500. Is it because of cutting-edge technology which justifies the cost or because it's so light which allows them to charge so much? If the material is so radically different I'd be curious of it's durability and weather-handling capability

It's netting with a floor and poles. That's a lot of money just to save a little weight. I'm glad I don't concern myself so much with weight.

That's a lot of money for a tent that isn't cuben. Some interesting products, but it all reads like ad copy.

It is really a 1+ person shelter unless two had to bivy one night on a big climb but then this wouldn't be the right shelter for that job. The footprint isn't bad but the front entry and headroom only in the middle of the tent make it seem a lot smaller than it is.

skinewmexico is spot on. With this BA, a new 3 season Hilleberg due out in 2012 for $790, I think a cuben shelter is the way to go! Cheaper too!!

With the street price of The Fly Creek UL2 down to about $270 (HumbleOutdoors). Is six ounces and the possibility of a less robust tent worth it?
