    Question Tyvek ?

Just wondering where the cheapest place to buy a piece, not a roll, would be? Can you by just a piece at a hardware store? If not, where? Thanks in advance.

Got mine at Ace Hardware but call first. Not all of them carry it. Also, any construction site can be good. I've asked and gotten what they call scraps and we call enough for a tent, pack and gaiters.

Construction sites often have pieces perfect for us backpackers in their trash. A buddy of mine is a builder and I asked him for some scrap pieces like 8 years ago. He gave me enough to last me decades.....and that was just off of one site.

I prefer kite Tyvek. It is slightly more expensive, but softer and quieter like cotton cloth. Has the same strength and properties. You can order it online from a variety of places or pick it up by the linear foot at Amazon. I bought enough to create about 4 ground covers for $30.

Just beware. I asked a contractor friend of mine for some, and got something (NOT "Tyvek" at all) that he also had dug out of a debris bin. It was full of holes and tears. Oh well, he had good intentions. Anyway, just a warning that contractors can be a bit clueless about our backpacking uses and needs.

A small business, usually in the process of starting up, not necessarily interested in competing with the "big guys" usually someone specializing in one or two things. Examples are ULA packs and
Tarptent. Also called "cottage industries". Most mega computer companies started in someone's garage. They're no longer cottage industries.
