    Default It's so simple really...

I'm looking for a poncho that has the longer flap in the back that can be snapped up out of the way but allows the poncho to be long enough to use with a backpack or as a shelter. And in a neutral color like gray, green, brown, etc. And it needs to be reasonably light, like silnylon or something similar.

Why is this so hard to find?

Talk to Joe at Zpacks.com or the people at Mountain Laurel Designs. They do great custom work at a great price. You won't be disappointed w/ either.

Ron at www.mountainlaureldesigns.com made me a custom silnylon poncho a few years ago. I think I paid about $130.00 for it. It has way more loops than I could ever use (should stand up to a hurricane), and he even added his own touch for free: a snap on front beak. I have some pics on Webshots http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/253492996JmxEGl .You can request just about anything from Ron and he will make it for you. His equipment isn't cheap, but it is very well made (and you can get exactly what you want).

The posts above give 1 route to pursue, which would be to get a custom one made. Another option is one of these: http://www.equinoxltd.com/the-gear/u...ho-shelter.cfm, which I think may be what you are looking for (I have one a bought a few years ago). You would need to get the one with the extension. Mine has snaps and a few pieces of velcro on it to keep the extension up out of the way when not in use.

I think Camp-Mor sold one back in 2000. Worth a look see.

Golite poncho tarp. I sold my older model dark green one yesterday for $25 used on this forum. They are sold all over the place. Google Golite poncho or check Campmor as stated above.

REI has them for around $34. Got one last year and it snaps up for a regular length, but unsnaps for a pack. Works great.

Thanks for the ideas! The equinox product looks pretty good! Custom is a last resort, as I am cheap and paying over $100 for a poncho seems a bit much.

I saw the Campmor offering, but thought it was a tad on the heavy side at over 1lb.

I'm still not seeing anything at REI. Got a link?
