    Default 800 fill

hey folks... bought a patagonia 800 down fill for 200.00 bucks... beautiful coat...but wore it a couple times here in eastern carolina and froze my tail off... i took it back, tried on a north face summit series 800 fill and it was a lot better... before i purchase this lite weight coat, any suggestions on a 800 down fill thats lite weight, warm... and about 200 bucks?

Marmot Zeus or Ama Dablam. The latter may be over 200.

The most important is fill weight---how much down by weight is in the jacket. Companies that don't post these numbers are suspect.

LL Bean has a 850 fill weighs 1lb, it ain't no sweater. Great jacket with excellent loft. That is if your looking for a jacket and not some ultra light shirt

Confused---is this the total weight of the jacket (probably) or is it just the weight of the down inside the jacket??

fill weight, loft (800, 850, 900) and how the down is contained and distributed throughout the coat.

This will keep you warmer than the Patagonia. 5oz of down should be good down into the 20s by itself.

I don't think it was 800 fill, but Costco was selling a very lightweight down parka for about $30. It's a boys jacket, but an XL might fit you if you're a medium in mens.

I saw that coat at costco, very nice for 30 bucks if it could fit you. A lot of people are cutting off the sleeves and turning it into a vest. They then use the sleeves as booties for sleep. Whats also cool is that it has a hood too. If i was only a smaller frame I would have definatly bought one. The beauty is that its only $30. dollars so if you catch a fire ember its no bfd.

Yeah, I would have bought it if it fit, but sadly I'm much too big. It's a great buy. For those in New York, down jackets at Uniqlo are getting good initial reviews.
