    Question Search function

Ok I give up. I've tried the search but I can't see that it works. I'm trying to find any information on "hanging a food bag" but it keeps returning me to the first page of one of the forums. Am I supposed to read every post to find the information I'm looking for. Isn't the purpose of "search" to find the exact information your looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sometime the Search feature is a pain. I clicked on Advanced Search. Entered Hang Food Bag in the Keywords area. Selected "Search Titles Only" in the drop down box and got a few relevant hints, such as:
    http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/show...=hang+food+bag

Hope that helps to get you going.

If you want to get an exact match of the words you have to put them in parentheses.

I have had issues with the search function since the upgrade. May be my Mac. Old.

I think a tutorial or sticky or some such might help others, too.

Anyone remember the thread on temperatures and shape of rhododendron leaves?

Having a search issue myself. I'm trying to search (in both the advanced and on the opened page) and my search is producing no results at all.

So, it seems to me that the search feature is not properly searching for strings of words. For example, if I search for Marmot Precip, I get all the postings containing either Marmot or Precip, but what I'm looking for is only the ones that contain the phrase Marmot Precip. It also doesn't seem to matter if I place the phrase inside quotes or parentheses. Any guidance on how to use the search feature would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to include more than one word or a phrase of words then you have to put them in quotes like this "Marmot Precip".

And then how do you get it to show the results at the individual post level rather than at the thread level?

    Go to Advance Search option
Click on the tab Searchg Single Content Type
Type in the search phrase you want
Pick all the option you want to include
Now, toward the bottom in the Show Resuslts As option pick POSTS.

Regardless of the above posts - the search works just fine.... Atroll Knows!

I am not sure if that was meant to be derogatory or not. If there is a problem with the search features I would like to know. I have not found a problem yet. Please let me know if something is not working properly.

When I want to search the forum, I use Google's site search syntax. Type your search inquiry into Google followed by site:whiteblaze.net/forum.

Here's a comparison of the search results:

    1) Searching "bear bag hanging" WITHOUT quotation marks using the WhiteBlaze site-search function.
    2) Searching "bear bag hanging" WITH quotation marks using the WhiteBlaze site-search function.
    3) Searching "bear bag hanging site:whiteblaze.net/forum" with no quotation marks on Google.

The Google search results are massively more helpful than the ones from the WhiteBlaze site-search. I don't know a thing about programming or why this would be, but hopefully that helps people in the future.

Thank you Scrub Hiker. I never knew you could do that on Google.
