Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

A gift card from REI... which arrived early, so I was able to take advantage of the 30% off special and the free two-day shipping. YAY! Really did save me a lot of money and I was able to buy three items instead of two.
Also, I got a nice check that I will be able to put toward my zero days and hostel stays during my 2012 AT thru-hike. And a little more breathing room on my already tight budget.

Super comfortable and doesn't weigh much at all.
We've also acquired over the last 2 months:
* ULA Circuit for me - should be here this week, I'm beyond psyched!
* Marmot Aura 2P (actually sleeping in it tonight)
* Marmot PreCip jackets for us both
* Mt. Hardwear UltraLamina 0 bags for us both
We're not made of money, honestly - we just budget well.

Asked for and got lots of REI GC's. In years past, unless I was specific I would get 'almost' the right gear. It's safer and easier to get my own gear, kinda like women shooping for clothes.
My wife had a book made up for me documenting my thru-hike this year. Now I can sit back in my recliner and relive the adventure!

Merrell Chamelen Arc Ventalators, lightweight/quick dry/UV protection shirt, marino longsleeved shirt, Hiker's wool, and US cash. Now for a visa and airticket!
Ok nothing hiking related. But I got a picture of my son from Afganistan. He also called to wish me a Merry Xmas from there, and remind me he will be home in Febuary. Other than that spending time with the family was the best present.
$100 GC to local hiking store. Probably use it for stove or hiking pole.
I love photo books! I made two so far, one a family vacation and one photo-a-day project for 365 days in 2010. Good call on that one for your wife.I got a deuter 75L pack, trekking poles and some Skeletoes. I still have a late xmass family thing to go to. Hoping for an REI or amazon card. Need a fixed blade knife and a few small items, and then I'm ready to go somewhere.

Snowpeak mini titanium cookset. Black Diamond distance FL Z poles. Now I am going to get a caldera tri-ti ulc stove to go with the cookset.
got a really nice $50 gift card to REI, from my wonderful wife! All good, but................problem is, I spend the $50 and then, well, when you see all that hiking eye candy, you know the rest of the story-I "might" spend more then the $50!

A new Western Mountaineering Puma w/gore wind-stopper. I had been concerned about an upcoming winter outing and if my old WM bag would keep me warm. This bag is rated at -25 deg F, 3#-13ozs, shouldn't have to worry about the cold. Just WOW! Got several more items related to backpacking, including food items, clothing, etc. The WM bag was the big item and a big surprize.
