    Default 501 Shelter parking?

Can you safely parking your car at this shelter for a 3 day hike?
    or
Does anyone know how to contact the caretaker for this shelter?

    Thank you.

You can safely park at the parking area on the road.

Better still is to talk with the caretaker. She let us leave our car in a small pull off right by the chain going across the road and within site of the shelter. Also kept the car from being visible from the road. Nice place to stay.

Yeah, it's best to talk to Bob and Martha (the caretakers) DIRECTLY. Anytime that you park at a location that's visible from the road, you run the risk of vandalism, and this lot - although patrolled by the local police - has had its share of vandalism from time to time.

I agree, roadside parking there has had some vandalism in the past.
Lots of kids go drinking there and nearby at the lookout.

It'd be best if the ATC built a parking lot closer to the caretaker's house.
But I imagine there are too many politics involved.

Thanks to Bob and Martha for letting me park by the chain for the weekend. Does anybody know if they shuttle? Looking for a ride from Deleware Water Gap back to 501 over Easter. Figured it might be perfect for them as they would be pulling right into their driveway.
