Default Are chlorine tabs readily available on the trail?

Are chlorine tabs readily available along the trail, or should I mail-drop then in? What's your take?

Aqua Mira is, although it's not a tablet. Pretty popular, though. You shouldn't lack for availability of water treatment.

The Aqua Mira and Pur tabs are available at most outfitters, but I haven't seen them at places like Walmart yet. But you can get to an outfitter at least every couple of weeks, anyway, and that many tabs don't weigh much.

Personally, I drink most water in the backcountry.
There have been times when I've put bleach drops in it however. (rare)

But, today I saw this on another site:

    Looks like an Irish company.

I don't know if they can be found everywhere, but I've seen them at my local store.

If you are considering Aquamira chlorine dioxide tablets, note they have a 4-hour wait time.

    Backpacking light, feels so right.

Here's how I roll with my chemicals...

If the water is clear and flowing I just allow my chemicals to work 20 - 30 minutes (warm weather I wait about 20, cold about 30) and then drink. However, since I don't usually drink a lot of water while hiking, more times than not it is usually even longer than this before I drink from the water.

If the water is sketchy looking then I wait the same time frame with the chemicals, but then I will filter it through a Frontier Pro filter before drinking. Then it's perfect...

    Oh yeah, let me add...

I don't carry liter upon liter upon liter of water with me at a time just so I can wait on it to be treated. I carry between 1 - 2 liters of water at a time. This is actually less water than what I carried when I used my filter and a bladder...I would top that thing off and be sloshing around with 3L in a bladder and then another 3/4 pound in filter...

    Anyway, off topic...

To the OP and the original question...I think it has been answered, but I'll chime in too...

It will probably be harder to keep up with tablets along the trail unless you bounce them ahead in a large enough supply. May want to go with the AM drops instead. Besides, they are less expensive and those 2 little bottles of AM will last a little while longer than a pack of the tabs...
