golite terrono 90l - anyone have any comments on this pack? 90L seems a bit much. Thoughts?
90L is huge! What are your plans for the pack? Where are you going, and for how long?
at most 6 days before resupply...........thoughts on size with that info? the Terrano 90L is on sale for 99 at golite now not sure but I think its too big!
Wow 90liters. That sounds more like a bivey than a backpack. 50-65 is what your see on the trail.
I take it you are fairly new to backpacking? Look up Winton Porter's 3 season Gear List (I dont have a link handy, but I bet someone else will post it for ya). When I started getting more serous about backpacking, I was pointed to that list, and with pretty much exactly what he had listed, I fit everything into my Deuter ACT Lite 65 + 10 pack, with plenty of room for a weeks worth of food, plus some. So like rotorbrent said, 50-65 liters should suffice for all the gear you will ever need for 3 season backpacking. I would look at the Quest on the same site for $79, but at 72L, that is still probably overkill.

That is a good place to start, and should all fit comfortably in a 50-65L pack with room to spare for luxuries/food, etc.
Reasons not to buy a pack over 65 liters:
If things don't fit you won't bring them (less weight)
If you know you can't bring it you don't need to buy something (spend less money)
You won't need to replace it when you realize how much carrying 90L of stuff sucks (save more money)
Less awkward/bulky (easier to do scrambles)
Reasons to buy a 90L Pack:
You plan on carrying "all the comforts of home" (not very practical)
You plan on carrying someone else's stuff (children or significant other)
You carry a synthetic bag that takes up 30 liters of space, or intend to carry over 7 days of food
You are a dedicated masochist
A 50-60L is a much more practical choice for 3 season. The link Firefighter503 posted is brought up in almost every "newbie" thread for a reason. It's a fantastic list that provides all the flexibility of personal choices within guidelines that are not overwhelming to attain (you can get gear to fit those specks at any outfitter without spending more that "traditional" heavy gear would cost).

i carry the go-lite pinnacle. most will say its too large, but the cinch straps can reduce it to 2800 cu.in.
I'm so confused, I'm not sure if I lost my horse or found a rope.
REI, Osprey, and Deuter make some of the best packs (in my personal opinion) but they can be pricey... unless you stumble upon a really great deal
I also gotta agree with the 50-65 L as a pretty solid recommendation
Playing devils advokate; At 90 liters he could use that as his shelter though this not needing the extra weight of a tent, lol

Osprey exos 46, GREAT pack and will carry 25# very comfortably. Love mine!

One thing some people don't ask, how big are you? I am 6-3" and 250lbs. My bag is "tall", my pad is large, and all my clothes are 2x. I use a 2 man copper spur, and it fits me just right! So, my pack is a little larger of course. I never see anyone ask how big someone's stuff is before they throw out a recommendation. We aren't all average sized out here!
