    Default Pigs

Does anyone know of a pig breed that could be brought on a hike?

That precooked type is awesome. I try to add it to as many dinners as I can. The bacon pieces are also great. Lightweight also!

LEAVE THE PIG AT HOME .. KEEP IT ON A LEASH! AWAY

not eh the humor forum... oh well post the pig question in the dog forum.....
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

Id say one of those 'pink' breeds..

Have it hike and eat with you the entire way, then roast it at the end!

Talk about getting the whole trail experience in one bite...

Any! The love to eat acorns which makes for really well marbled meat. Are you looking to recreate an early Spanish exploration type of trek? Choctaw hogs are American from Spanish decent. Full grow about 150 pounds. That will make about 75 pounds of pulled pork bbq (Eastern Carolina vinegar based is my preference) . Talk about trail magic!

In the SMNP they pay people to hunt the pigs so I would put bells on the pig while hiking. What was that show Green Acres????

If you have to ask what breed, doesn't that indicate that you don't have enough experience with pigs to take one as a pet on a long hike?

Are you gonna keep it on a leash and out of the shelters? We now have enough pigs staying in the shelters.

Yes, my first ex-wife. I heard she's available still if you're interested.

It won't be quite as tough, if after the first several hundred miles you have your first roast. Additionally, at that point you could probably let it off its leash, a three legged pig can't get too far.

Pigs have already hiked the trail. European domestic pigs seem to work best. At least they worked for Hernando DeSoto who hiked a portion of the AT in NC and Tennessee in 1540 with around 600 pigs. There is a marker to that effect near Hot Springs NC. He wanted the pigs to eat along the way because food was a problem back then and with a fast breeding type pig he could re-supply along the route. Better than a bounce box. It is reported that the Cherokee provided some trail magic in the form of 300 dogs which the Spanish explorers ate in a few days time. Hungry hikers.

I heard Flying Pig has retired, you might want to get ahold of Son of Flying Pig.

Please don't insult the four legged pigs. They are fairly clean. They don't leave food scraps laying around. Never poo where they eat unless forced to. You could get one of those big pigs to carry your pack also. Eat everything including the oink is LNT.
