how would the wild boars react to your PET

I'm so confused, I'm not sure if I lost my horse or found a rope.
I'd only hike with a pig in winter so I could pull it on a sled. That way it wouldn't get too skinny and it could read you stories and stuff.
Not sure if this or the dentures should win for best post....
Spider Pig FTW!
Buy the ticket, you take the ride. - Hunter S. Thompson
Pigs aren't built to travel long distances like dogs. A thru hike would not be good for a pig.
Don't take anything I say seriously... I certainly don't.
Really bad idea. Why would you want to do this? Especially since it's obvious you don't have any experience with swine.

How about ten pigs. Eat one every 200 miles and then resupply.Originally Posted by Ender:1264654
take the little piggy that goes to market. that way you don't have to leave the trail to resupply and your $1000 will last longer.

You would need at least ten to make a decent meal!Originally Posted by Kookork:1264730
The name "Cabbagehead" kind of says it all.
You would need a pig on the wing. If the eyes flash, hold on to something.
You could find out if Porky or Petunia are up for the hike, although Porky might have trouble saying "Appalachian"..
No way a pig could make the whole trail, unless you carried it in your pack (or on top of it like Ziggy the cat). Even hardier species or boar crosses would not make it...not enough food, inability to climb high, and the hunger of hikers mistaking it for feral and trying to eat it. In reality the thing would probably walk off McCafeys Knob or something like that....not to mention explaining it to a ranger in the Smokeys.
I don't bring pets on the trail. I saw the forum on bringing dogs, and thought this was ridiculous. I was trying to come up with a slightly less ridiculous idea.
Pigs:
Advantages:
- They are far more intelligent than dogs.
- They can be fed any type of food. You might be able to get free restaurant scraps for it.
Major Disadvantage:
- I don't know what breeds are out there, but most of them have short legs.

I believe that canines are one of the two species that has the physiology to travel more miles over long periods of time than humans. They're just suited to the cold. Horses are suited to flat and warm.
I hear there are wild boars on the AT - What is your plan when your pig goes into heat? How is the Pig Sex on the AT?
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

Wildebeast would do the whole AT in about fourty days. Unassisted of course. Add a few lion prides and hyena packs and they would go even faster. Many animals migrate long distances on foot.Originally Posted by ScottP:1264943
