Default Crocs and Waldies and Holey Shoes!

This is a random question, but I'm confused and assume there are many wiser than myself who regularly read whiteblaze. So.

What's the deal with Waldies and Crocs? Are these different products by the same company, or made by entirely different companies, or...? They seem far too similar to not be made by the same people, but I swear I've seen Crocs that seem much more "plastic-y", not to mention more "mainstream" than Waldies. And then there's Holey Shoes, which I at first assumed was the parent company...but now I'm not so sure.... Googling all these things just confused me more. Someone help!

    (e.g. http://www.crocs.com/index.asp)

I havent seen Waldies but Crocs do look plastic-y. Are they made of the same material?

From what I've heard, Crocs bought out Waldies.

Waldies are no longer being made. If you own Waldies now, you won't be able to get new ones; Waldies are finito.

Crocs are essentially the same shoe, but with a built in ankle strap, which should help keep the shoe on. (Very useful for crossing streams, etc.)

Crocs are usually in the $29.99 range, give or take a few dollars.

That's absolutely tragic. But the world makes sense again, so thanks! I shall treaure my Waldies even more.

    [QUOTE=Tater]Waldies are for sale everywhere:

Go to the walden store index page and this is posted:

We regret to inform you that the waldenstore is closed permanently and WILL NOT be accepting any more orders. We are sorry for the inconvenience and we appreciate your support throughout the years.

Last time I checked, www.allheart.com no longer sold the waldies either. But they are still being made, just not by the same company. My girlfriend picked some up last week at a gear shop. The crocs have a strap that goes around the back of your ankle to keep your foot in the clog. The waldies do not. However, I think they are made of the same material.

It's hard to say on the material of the waldies, they are made of this rubbery/foamy/plastic material. They are extremely comfortable as camp shoes and if you get the ones with holes in the top, they ventilate your feet quite well.
If you're worried about blisters on your feet: if they are on the heel they won't be a problem; the waldies have an open heel and you could probably take the ankle strap off of the croc version.
I biked across the country last summer with someone that thru hiked the AT the year before. He recommended them and I fell in love with them. They're comfortable and very light weight.

You'd only hike in them in an emergency, UGH. They're made of a foam material that is really quite comfortable. When it's not too damp out I frequently wear them into the woods to collect firewood and down to the spring. They hold up very well.

Oh no, that's really bad; I saw some Crocs in Bass Pro Shop last month and after examining them said "I'm glad I have Waldies." The Waldies seemed more substantial to me and they don't have a strap. They are extremely comfortable and more durable than expected. The price was good too- only 17.95 direct from the Waldenstore in 2003. I had a bout of plantar fascitis last year and there was nothing better than my Waldies for walking around my house. But to be fair to Croc's, I have not tried them on my feet, only looked at them in a store, they may turn out to be equal or better, I don't know.

Don't you just hate it when a good product gets snuffed out?

You can buy all the Waldies you want at Adventure Damascus and Sundog Outfitters here in Damascus. Walasi-Yi at Neel Gap has them too.

Out of curiosity, what's the weight of these? I've seen them, and know they're pretty light, but has anyone put them on a scale?

I just weighed a pair of large Waldies and they were 12.20 ounce.

I mail ordered Crocs, mailed them back for a different size, mailed the replacement pair back because the strap was broken, mailed the next pair back because they sent the wrong size. Last week my wife and I went to the mall about 20 minutes from our house. They sell Crocs at the Hallmark store.

I spoke to a Croc Rep. a few weeks back and asked him about Waldies. He told me that Croc allowed Waldie to sale the shoes initially but after the huge response to the shoe that this would no longer be available. Waldies are no more unless some store has back stock or somehow gets its hands on an old supply. Croc is the only current manufactuer of the shoe.
