    Default White Mountains and Microspikes

Does anyone have experience with spring time trip in the Whites? I was thinking of heading up there in a week or two to start with the Kinsman Range (AT). I am not sure if there will be snow or ice up there at that time, but am planning for the worst. Would microspikes do the trick or do I need crampons? I was thinking of picking up the Kahtoola Microspikes to use with my LaSportiva Wildcat trail runners.

    Thanks for the help!

It's been a very mild winter and hot today, as you know. But there's been 2' of snow on Mt. Washington and other high peaks in the last week. My guess is that you won't need microspikes, but your best bet is to check trip reports right before you leave:

Thanks for the links. I was aware of VFTT, but not the others. Perfect!

I wore Kahtoola Microspikes on Tecumseh on Saturday. What a great product! Perfect for current conditions up high. There were hikers without traction, but I found it easier. Snow was probably over a foot in places, but always hard packed.
