Thanks for the review.. I am about to pull the trigger on a down insulating layer to replace my synthetic jacket. Have been eyeing the EX Light for a while. Any problems with the lighter shell?

No the shell seems strong enough. Some small down leakage as I stated on my blog. Really noticeable the first few times I wore the jacket but now it's not so bad. Hasn't affected the ability to keep me warm.

Dude in the unedited version the first take down the Bumble gave me felt like I got slammed by a linebacker! My feet left the ground LOL. I got nervous!

I got one of these and I'm stoked to take it on my thru! I haven't had a chance to test it but I'm confident it will be perfect based on my buddy's recomendation.

As far as the lack of hand pockets I figured if I really need them I can just put on my rain jacket over this and use those. I'll have gloves anyways.

Any problems with light moisture on this jacket? This thing looks great!

I used this on the CDT last year; don't recall getting light moisture on it, as I never wore it outside of my tent in the rain. But it held up fine, great piece of gear. Pockets: I put my hands in my pants pocket if I wanted pockets (my rain jacket also lacks such pockets).

I've used a Thermawrap jacket in the past, but really like this now, as it's warmer for the weight; obviously just have to take that extra bit of care to not let it get wet. I could never hike in the thermawrap jacket anyway, but the EX Light down jacket combined with a thermawrap vest (which I have hiked in) allow me to handle quite a range of environments at a pretty low weight penalty.

Good call about the rain jacket for pockets. Its the simple things.. guess its time to pull the trigger then!

I carried one on my 09 PCT hike and still use it. With it stuffed on top of my other clothes in my clothing stuff sack, it made a nice pillow so I kept it even in hot N.Calif. It was nice to wear around in camp when it was cold. But I found it too hot to hike for more then 15minutes, even when it was snowing at the end of Sept.
