Default Roan Highlands, 56K no way

Everyone, last week I did the short section from Roan High Knob to 19E. It brought back memories. I did this section in 1993 but I remember it was cloudy then and I couldn't see the views.

This has to be one of the most spectacular sections on the AT. I know many of you have been there as well. For those that haven't here are some pics, enjoy

That's beautiful, sorta like PCT hiking, I think?

    Thanks for the backpacking porn.
Some people take the straight and narrow. Others the road less traveled. I just cut through the woods.

Yep that section is pretty sweet.

How many monkey butlers will there be?

One at first. But he'll train others.

It's so nice to see a bald without a hiker feed on it.

The trouble I have with campfires are the folks that carry a bottle in one hand and a Bible in the other.

Probably my favorite section of the AT thus far (Springer to Culver's Gap, NJ). I was there in June of last year - Azaleas, Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, even the Gray's Lilly was in bloom. On top of that, we crossed part of the time in wispy clouds, part of the time above the clouds, and part of the time in bright sun. Amazing.

I'll echo the above poster. My favorite section of the AT so far as well (Springer to Caledonia State Park, PA minus a short section in middle VA). Brings back good memories from last year at Roan Mountain Shelter.

Awesome pics ! simply beautiful ; question:
Is there parking at Iron Mountain Gap & is it safe ? -- I've heard of 19E having had past issues.
Good 2+ days to hike this going Nobo ?

Done it four times since 2008 and love it. Best section of the southern AT.That whole section from Hot Springs to 19E is great.

That section is very dear to me.

JohnnybGood, while 19E may have issues at the roadside parking area, about 1/4 mile west is Moluntain Harobour B&B/hostel. You can park there for a very small fee and get a shuttle!
