i agree... skinny dipping is both more modest and way more socially acceptable. every time i get to skinny dip on the trail i feel like one awfully lucky old man.

Unfortunately, the human nekid body isn't always such a beautiful thing to see.

I wouldn't bother calling the police, but I would unleash some vigilante justice upon them. Getting naked somewhere off-trail in the backcountry is one thing, but hiking naked shows a blatant disregard for others, not to mention that is a an indication of a recognized mental illness.

All kidding aside, exhibitionism, which is exactly what this is, is recognized as a mental illness by the mental health community and is even listed as a separate entry in both the DSM-IV and DSM 5.

"All kidding aside," there seems to be a fair amount of mental illness expressed in this thread.

First, almost everything is considered a mental illness these days. It causes more neurosis about what "might" be wrong than showing a legitimate problem. Childhood Issues? Congratulations on reading up on Freud. Exhibitionism infers a thrill derived by other people seeing you and is a fetish thing. I think the OP probably just thinks it would be fun to do. And even if it is a bit of exhibitionism it doesn't mean it is some sort of general life style choice or illness. I think vigilante justice on a person just trying to have fun and a laugh denotes a much more serious mental condition. I really think people need to get off their high horse about nudity and a lot of other things in general. Its like one of my favorite expressions. "Don't make it weird". Let people do their thing. I've been to nudist beaches while hiking cliffs in Spain and while some people were certainly not overly pleasant to look at I don't think they were mentally disturbed.

A co-worker just made a great point! Think about how much easier it would be to check for Ticks!

I would for an hour or so when I thru hike in 2013 because I think it's one of "those" traditions that should be cherished, BUT as a foreigner, I wouldn't like my hike being interrupted by deportation or similar so will err on the side of caution. Mooning the Mt Washington cog railway may still be on the cards as I have a very "common" looking ass that would be hard to pick out of a lineup.

My son is home from college, so I don't even get to walk around the house naked, much less hike naked. How about this...I want to hike naked, but I don't want to SEE you hike naked...
