Default Newbie starting first section hike in VA in early July...

    Hello,

I will be starting my first section hike from Luray, VA north to the Harpers Ferry area over the July 4 holiday week. I have a few questions:

-General idea of the weather to expect that time of year,

-Will the trail be crowded with holiday hikers,

-Will a 50 degree bag be overkill, or should I just bring a blanket?

    Thanks for your help!!

    Hot, humid, probably rainy

    Yes

I'd bring a 40 degree. The mountains CAN get cold at night year round.

    Enjoy!

July is generally hot in Virginia & humidity can be brutal here. A 40 degree bag will be plenty warm .

Ticks are already out in record numbers so be vigilant and check often.

    Have fun !
