Thread: Maine resupply

    Default Maine resupply

Are there any towns in Maine that are more hiker friendly than others and are there any that should be avoided?

I resupplied in Andover, Stratton, and Monson. Also stopped for a meal in Rangeley. All my experiences were positive.

Check out Baltimore Jacks resupply article, a little dated but still useful.

All of the towns were extremely friendly. Andover wouldn't be a bad place to send a mail drop because of price/selection but you can still get by without.

Thanks for all the good info. Was it easy enough to get rides to and from towns?

My longest wait for a ride was to Monson - nearly an hour. All the others were pretty prompt. Hitching to Andover from East B Hill Rd., my ride was a logger in a big truck.

All the towns I stopped in were great - stopped in Andover, Rangeley, Stratton and Monson.

Bethel gets the thumbs-up from me, as well. Forced in by Hurricane Irene last year, stayed an extra day. Chapman Inn has the best breakfast (included w/ bunk fee) on the Trail, IMO. Rangeley, Stratton, and Monson all great as well, very friendly to hikers.

In Andover you can call Pine Ellis Hostel and David will pick you up for a small fee.

i didn't have a great experience in Rangeley, and it was a lousy hitch. the other the towns were terrific. Stratton has a good grocery store, as does Rangeley.
