wanna suprise a friend hiking the AT for his bday. He'll be in Bear Mtn. Any inexpensive shuttles from the airport?
There are two grades to a mountain, either you can do it or you can't.

Train from Newark Airport to Penn Station. Walk a few block north to Port Authority Bus Terminal. Bus from there straight to Bear Mountain. Easy.

Take Newark Airtrain to NJ Transit train station. Then NJT train to Secaucus Junction (most, but not all, NYC bound trains stop there); then NJT train to Suffern from the lower level. Switch to the above bus there; it will be faster and more pleasant than going to NYC.
