I have a question... Why do hikers assume someone staying in a tent MUST be homeless? The guy has not been reported to even talk to hikers, yet they are assuming he is a homeless, pan handling, maniac, alcoholic, mentally unstable, freak... who is out to hurt them. That is stunning to me...

Homeless people should be banned from the trail. They are professionals in an amature sport. Everyone should be required to show proof of a residence at any time while hiking. They are so different from us. They go days without bathing. They eat whatever they can find. They gladly accept handouts. They try to live as cheap as possible. They smell bad. They sometimes hitchhike. It's just awful. I can't abide these types.

Wait... Are we talking hikers, or homeless people?

Makes me want to go set up a tent near the trail. Then, I will put up a laundry line... Just to see what is said about that.

Wait a minute... It was the line full of laundry that must have scared the hikers. CLEAN LAUNDRY!!! Cannot have that in the woods...

Hikerboy - it wasn't directed at anyone - just found the tennis balls funny..... No hammocks for kids - too many regulations....

Water Rat, careful your posts will get the congregation worked up! - We cannot have that kind of flatulence round here. Too much hot air!
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

*sigh* Okay, I'll TRY to behave. It's just not that much fun. Maybe I will go poke the polar bear with a stick...

That's the spirit! - Curious if I hang a Trip-tease above my head between two trees and put a White Lands End T-Shirt on it...What law am I breaking? Or is that the signal for someone to dial 911?

Catching up on some threads around here and have a few points I'd like to make...
    1. I have never known homeless people to do laundry....
    2. wouldn't have thought a discussion on the religious motivations of trail angels should go under "straight forward" forum title (humour might be more appropriate).
    3. I think polar bears are only not known for eating penguins because they're at differen poles and if they found them, they'd eat them.
this type of penguin is delicious..

    4. That moat's gonna need a whole lot of SILWF's brought in.
    5. Welcome back HB! We missed ya, Water Rat's been practically running the show on her own.
    6. Good news about the knee WOO, make sure you get enough shelter mice to finish the recovery.
    7. I keep my dog on a leash. Sometimes I let others hold her for a while...

    Polar Bear Road kill mmmmmmmmm

Question: if Solar Power is all the rage and Green is in. Why is it socially un-acceptable to have a close line?

    Oh now I know why!

If you hang a white shirt, isn't that the signal for surrender? You...or the hiker...must be in obvious peril. It just strikes me as hilarious that someone sees a tent and assumes that the occupant is a homeless, begging, axe-murderer. What if the guy just found a nice place to camp for a bit and was enjoying the area? It would totally crack me up to find out this is some guy on vacation.
