    Default Daughter's wedding

If my daughter is getting married in the "Quiet Corner" of Connecticut on 9 August 2014, when should I leave Springer to make it on time?

    This.

But as somebody who is planning a wedding right now, I have to ask:

Thru hiking is a heck of an accomplishment, regardless if you make it to Maine, or just Connecticut.

Do you really want to take on a challenge which had the potential to bring disappointment if it fails and the potential to upstage the wedding if if succeeds?

There is no right answer one way or the other (it's all very personal and depends on your situation), but it's worth thinking about.

You should plan on averaging about 100 miles/week on your thru hike. This typically allows for 1 zero/nero town stop per week. You will start slower than that, but make up time in Virginia, Maryland, PA, an New Jersey as the terrain is not as difficult, longer hiking days, and you will be in much better conditioning.

Are you talking about hiking to CT OR hiking to K?

Does hiker funk come off with one shower or should I allow time for more showers?

We're a year out now. The venue is booked, the dress bought, band and flowers laid on. The reception is going to be a buffet (of course) AYCE.

I figure an early April start date, no later than mid month. That'll give me time to get cleaned up etc when I get to Connecticut.

My daughter and future son in law are going to hike north with me into Massachusetts for about a week until they head home to Boston. A three person tent will seem much roomier than my one man tent.

You don't have to time it exactly. Just leave the trail a week before the wedding take a bus to the wedding and then take a bus back to where you got off the trail.
Love people and use things; never the reverse.

Mt. Katahdin would be a lot quicker to climb if its darn access trail didn't start all the way down in Georgia.
