Default Southern extensions to a thru hike?

What trails continue on from springer? Benton Mackaye, Pinhoti. Are there more? Any suggestions on what trail to hike if I finish my thu by Halloween and want to keep going?

You can go all the way to Key West . Its called the Eastern Continental trail. There is a way to get from pinhoti to Fla trail.

If you like walking miles and miles of blacktop.

The trouble I have with campfires are the folks that carry a bottle in one hand and a Bible in the other.

When you get to the plaque at the southern terminus do a 180 and hike back to the BMT... Take it almost to the Georgia/NC state line and make a left on the Pinhoti Trail. That'll take you to mid-state Alabama and should keep you busy for a while.

Would you suggest the PT over doing the entire BMT?

I haven't hiked the Pinhoti but I hiked the BMT last year and it was awesome. Totally different trip than the AT. Much more of a wilderness trip with tons of solitude. From Springer all the way to the Smokies I passed 1 other backpacker the entire trip. Once I entered the park of course I started seeing other backpackers so the last 90 or so miles was a bit more like the AT.

Some day hikers from time to time near road crossing and that was it.

I'm doing a Harpers Ferry to Maine, Harpers Ferry to Georgia Flip-Flip and I'm about 900 miles in. I'm making good time and I don't have to be back at work until January. I started on June 9th. Just feeling out my options for where I could take this adventure.

I'd wait until you get closer to GA to see what happens... A little early to make plans. You're not even half way yet...

I know. I'm just feeling out my options. Plenty of time to think and dream. Blissful, it's great to hear from you. I met you on my first day at the Crampton Gap shelter. Hope you are having a splendid summer.
