Camping areas in and around Roan Mtn

Are there any areas around the summit of Roan mtn that one could set up a 1p tent?

Yes there are several around the high point rock that are great for tenting. You also have the cabin to bail in if the weather gets too bad. Just remember it is first come, first served.

If you get the chance, cross carvers gap and go up on top of Grassy Ridge. Absolutely beautiful.

I agree with Whack-a Mole. Hike from Carvers Gap to Grassy Ridge. The sunsets and sunrises are fantastic and it is usually nice and quiet. I have overnighted up there at least a dozen times and all but one time I was the only one there.

As said, go up Grassy Ridge and follow the trail over the open summit and into the saddle. There is a small campsite right there.
