    Default Mashed potatos and gravey

Instant mashed potatos are a pretty popular trail food, but thier a bit on the "bland" side. It finally occured to me to add gravey - duhh!

I bought a package of brown gravey mix, added about half the package to 2 cups of water, boiled for a minute and added the instant potatos. Ummm, much better. Add some Spam (fry it first if you can) and you have a "Meat and potatos" meal.

Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

Powdered potatoes are one of the few foods I just can't eat. I can't get past the grainy texture.

Just pile on the butter buds and powdered gravy mix. Don't add water.

I tried this trick on a group of teens years ago. It was a big success.

I not only add meat and gravy, but also several different kinds of veggies.

I found that by adding garlic powder to the mashed potato flakes I could make them at least palatable (along with salt and pepper of course).

Most bulk food stores carry brown gravy mix. I use it at home - 1/3 cup of gravy mix to 1 cup of water - for when I want the taste of restaurant gravy over fries or mashed potatoes.

Some gravy mix, dehydrated ground beef, mashed potatoes and some veggies and spices and you've got shepherd's pie. Not as artfully arranged as at home but tasty all the same.

No. I'm pretty sure I can figure out making mashed potatoes from powder. I just do not like the texture.

Can you remove the sea salt from the SILWF and use it in the 'taters?

I tried the gravy once and it did make the the mash potatos eatable but making the gravy was a hassle. I had a new titanium set with a small lid that looks like a fry pan I cooked the gravy in. Couldn't chisel the the gravy off the pan when I got home. It would not wash off, literally had to chisel it off and it took forever to get off. I'll try gravy again but next time I'll try making it in a freezer bag.

I met a hiker north of Kent that got caught shoplifting a box of instant mashed 'taters. His trail name became dumb ass.
